Instrumentation Mastery Blueprint – Complying With Legislations and Regulations

Complying With Legislations and Regulations

The goal of this article is to inform you of the the many different regulations and legislation that you will be expected to follow as an Instrumentation Apprentice. It isn’t super exciting but it is something that you are expected to know about going forward.

What You Need To Know

The module that covers this topic can be found here under section U6551.04.

This module requires you to understand many different regulations and legislation. While this is important to understand, it is unlikely that you will memorize it all. I know I sure haven’t!

What I would recommend is to ask a lot of questions when you are doing something new or something you aren’t very confident doing. Your supervisor or safety person should be able to answer any questions regarding the legislation and regulation.

For example one of the jobs I am responsible for is to lockout our radiation sources. Before I was qualified to do the job I had to review the federal and provincial rules regarding locking out a radiation source. Now each time before I go to lockout the equipment I review my company’s radiation lock out policy.

Conclusion

The biggest thing to take away from this module is that if you don’t know, ask! If something doesn’t feel right then it probably isn’t right. As you move on through your career you will pick up more of the important safety legislation and regulations and be able to follow them confidently.
